Plot
In the midst of an international crisis, Kate Wyler, a professional diplomat, gets a high-profile job for which she is ill-suited and which has tectonic consequences for her marriage and political future. Producers have convinced both the American and British governments to allow them to use real-world settings as locations for the series, including the more recent US embassy (in Nine Elms), which opened in 2018. Britain allowed filming in the Foreign Secretary’s office, an honor rarely accorded to any film or screen production, especially an American one.
Presented at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards (2024)
One of the missing locations was Winfield House, the actual residence of the US ambassador. Although it is definitely called the largest residential plot in London (11 hectares) after Buckingham Palace, the producers used a country house outside the city for filming. My God!
Initially, I thought it was a brilliant, slow-moving political drama
The first season ended with an exciting event of gigantic proportions. The second season nearly gave me a heart attack in the last few minutes of the second season. I don’t know if my heart will survive the third season.
God, I was wrong
Maybe another *good* TV drama like Madam Secretary. “The Diplomat” will keep you in suspense throughout each episode. Catches that make you look at them like a hungry animal.
This is political theater at its best
This is even more than my wildest dreams. And while it’s only one-tenth of what REALLY happens in American politics and various agencies (CIA, Secret Service, Diplomacy), it’s still a wild ride again with Keri Russell in a strong female lead that reminded me why I I liked it so much. very much about his game in “Americans”; He is excellent!
