in “Kiss the Girls” and again
Plot
Adaptation of James Patterson’s novels about the complex and brilliant detective Alex Cross. Hodge is the third actor to portray Cross. He follows in the footsteps of Morgan Freeman, who first portrayed him in 1997. in 2001 in the film sequel Along Came a Spider; and Tyler Perry as the title character in 2012. in Alex Cross, which bombed at the box office and prompted Lionsgate to scrap a previously planned sequel, Double Cross. I started following Aldis Hodge’s career when I fell in love with her character in Leverage.
Here’s my problem
His appearance as a “hacker”; Hardison was great and I totally buy his performance as Alex Cross. The writing is strong, the performances are excellent in every way, and the direction and editing are top notch. The lighting stinks. I don’t know anyone who lives every moment of their inner life in such darkness. I’m only 40 minutes into the first episode, but I’m already struggling to see the details in many scenes. Three scenes in particular stand out.
The first was a cocktail lounge
I don’t go to cocktail bars and bars myself, but even in the darkest restaurant I’ve been to, there was enough lighting to see the faces of others at the table. Next was the bad guy’s lair. Would someone working on detailed plans and designs really do so in such low light? A perfectionist would really like to see everything they do clearly. The third is the house where Alex appears for dinner. This is not a romantic dinner for two.
Why is it so dark?
It is a gathering of family and friends. The whole house is dark – hall, living room and dining room. Also, all the rooms in the police building are dark. Shouldn’t a forensic pathologist have a well-lit operating room? If they’re trying to create atmosphere, I’m more focused on visuals than plot and dialogue. This is the choice of many shows in recent years.
Of course my father couldn’t
You know, anyone with low vision just wouldn’t be able to watch it. Having said that, I could be wrong about the reason for the darkness. I stopped watching How I Met Your Father. on another streaming service because it was also too dark to be enjoyable. A bit of internet surfing revealed that the problem was with the service, not the app. When the program was broadcast online, the lighting was just fine.
